The Bread of Life Leadership team is excited to announce the recipient of our Ambassador of Hope Award for 2024. The idea for this Award was born during the COVID-19 pandemic when our region of New York became one of the hotspots in the nation. Hoarding of food led to shortages of food available for food rescue and distribution. It was during this time of fear and desperation, that two high school students decided to take on leadership roles in garnering scarce resources in their communities to help feed those in need and support the mission of the Bread of Life that no one should ever go hungry. In their honor, we have established the Ambassador of Hope Award. The goal of this award is to recognize the leadership, initiative, and dedication of a high school student who has played an important role within the Bread of Life in helping to eliminate hunger and impact his or her community. This year’s recipient is Hannah Wasserman.

Hannah is currently a senior at Scarsdale High School. She has a deep dedication, and passion for helping others. Hannah first began volunteering with the Bread of Life in middle school. One could even say that she has grown up with us. She has been involved with many aspects of the Bread of Life, volunteering at our food pantry, packing pantry bags, and stocking shelves. She even spent time at a local Farmers Market raising funds for the work we do. When Hannah noticed that food supplies were dwindling in the summer months, she took the initiative to reach out to a large local camp and partnered with them and started annual summer food drives with camp families. These food drives have been very successful in providing an additional source of non-perishable food items.   Hannah also brought her passion for food insecurity into her school. She has been an officer in their One Can Club for a number of years and is currently serving in the role of President.   She has organized a variety of fundraising activities such as food drives and bake sales, as well as encouraged other students to volunteer.  She has also been a wonderful spokesperson within her high school for the work we are doing at the Bread of Life to combat food insecurity in our community.

Hannah truly is an Ambassador of Hope and gives every task her absolute best and demonstrates kindness and compassion to all people--food recipients, other volunteers, as well as our food donation partners. We consider Hannah a great blessing and wonderful addition to the Bread of Life team.
